Window Washing Company Names – The Fine Details

When it comes to deciding on a great business name for window cleaning or any business for that matter, there are some important details to consider. Before I began my own window cleaning business I was a graphic designer and made logos for lots of different businesses. Which came in handy once I decided to start my own business, and is about to come in handy for you right now!

As you begin to think about a business name you should also be envisioning a logo that will compliment the name you choose. I for example go by SqueakyClean and I have a duck with a squeegee. Ducks squeak, or at least rubber ducks are supposed to and my duck is modeled after a yellow rubber duck. And of course the name is a play on the term “squeaky clean.” So the logo and name go well together. I also threw in a hat and squeegee for my duck so that people would know that the duck is a window cleaning company that will make their windows really clean.

One important thing to consider is that your name does not have to specifically deal with your industry. Like “Fish Window Cleaning” for example, the only correlation between fish and windows is that the customer looking out their windows is much like a fish looking out its fish bowl. I don’t know if that is what they were thinking when they decided on the name. Nevertheless, you can choose anything you want.

Many window cleaners will name their businesses with words that refer to the industry, like streak, clear, bright, squeegee, window and so forth; but this is not necessary and often results in boring unmemorable business names. No offense to those who have already gone with these types of names. Your business name needs to be memorable!

When your name and logo are both memorable then you are going to have the advantage over your competition. What do you think would be more memorable, Squeaky Clean Window Washing with a yellow duck and squeegee or Joe’s Window Cleaning with a squeegee logo? Wizard Window Washing with a cool looking wizard holding a squeegee or Streakless Window Cleaning with a picture of a window and a drop of water?

I would go with the duck and wizard myself because the name and imagery would be memorable. The question I ask myself when I design a logo is, “if someone is driving down the freeway at 65 mph and saw the logo for a quick second would they remember it?” The shorter the name the better, and a simple but interesting logo will be easier for people to remember. What if you saw a wizard with a squeegee at 65 mph but didn’t catch the name, you would probably guess that it was wizard window cleaning or wizard window washing. If you had wizardwindowwashing.com for you domain name, then people could probably guess your online name and find you as well.

I wish I had originally gone with “Duck Window Washing” but unfortunately the domain name was gone and I was really trying to match my domain name to my real world name.

The domain name crisis is a big deal. If your domain name does not match your real world name it will only make it that much harder to effectively advertise your business. There is of course all the new domain name endings, but even these are starting to be bought up. Not only that, but .com is in reality the most excepted and remembered, I personally recommend a .com ending.

In closing I will say that memorable, simple, and short are probably the three most important factors as long as you can effectively get across what your business offers. If you can develop a name and logo that has multiple connections that interrelate what you offer the better off you will be. Also by choosing an object as a logo and business name that people are already familiar with will give you a competitive edge. For instance, Sun Window Washing, everyone is familiar with the sun. The name is very short and by adding a logo of the sun you have just called up an object people see everyday and placed your business in their minds in word, image and reality. This name and logo also suggests that your business is going to let the sun light back in with clean windows.

Hopefully by now you get the idea. Start thinking along these lines, write down as many as you can, and choose the one you feel is right for you.
